Nokia Asha 501 Budget Phone to be Released in June 2013

The new budget phone from Nokia, the Nokia Asha 501, was released on May 8th 2013 and is expected to be available in the UK from June 2013. This phone is aimed at consumers who cannot afford a smartphone, but would like to upgrade their existing phone to something more modern.

The phone, which is predicted to cost about £65 before any subsidies from the networks, runs the new Asha mobile operating system, and apps have already been written for it for Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In and others.

The phone is not compatible with 3g or 4g but comes with the Nokia Xpress Browser, which offers compression of up to 90% to increase download times.

Other features of the phone include:

  • A choice of colours - red, blue, green, black, yellow or white
  • 17 hours of talktime and 48 days of standby time
  • Dual sim card capability in one of the models
  • 3.2 MP camera
  • microSD card slot
  • 3", 240 x 300 pixel display
